Tensions suddenly peaked between the Socialist Republic of Kivemalia in Ereya and the Division of Anomalous Phenomena Research and Containment (DAPRC) after the latter denied a request to return the body of deceased international terrorist Mikhail Kovac.
Kovac was killed on February 1st, 2030, by operatives from the Bureau of International Defense. His remains have since been held under lockdown at the DAPRC for classified research.
"The Kivemalian people deserve closure," stated a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release issued earlier today. "Kovac was a huge threat to our nation, and his death brought relief to many. However, the proper cremation of his remains is essential for grieving families and for ensuring that justice is seen to be done". The DAPRC declined Kivemalia's request, citing ongoing research crucial to understanding the anomalous properties surrounding Kovac. "While we understand the Republic’s desire for closure," a statement released by the DAPRC read, "Mr. Kovac’s unique anomalous traits present invaluable opportunities for scientific advancement in the field of anomalous phenomena."
This refusal has been met with anger and frustration from the Kivemalian government, who accuse the DAPRC of prioritizing their research agenda over the human cost of Kovac's actions. The situation remains tense as both sides stand firm in their positions. Diplomatic channels remain open, but it is unclear if a resolution can be reached that satisfies both parties.
